It was with great pride that Numafa CL launched its upgraded website, now more than a year ago.
Our next step was to attract as many visitors to the site as possible and for this, we used ‘Search Engine Marketing’ (SEM). This term covers all the activities undertaken to have a website apper higher in the results from a search engine. The aim of SEM is the same as with regular marketing, namely to generate more leads, greater turnover and better name recognition.
Because Google is still the biggest search engine, we ‘optimized’ our website in accordance with Google’s way of working and ‘rules’. This process involved a number of important steps. To start with, you decide on the most significant search terms (key words) through which you wish to be found by the search engine.
It is then important to closely follow the results from ‘Google Analytics’ and respond effectively to these. This is also a handy tool for measuring how successful the process has been. For example, we are able to see that, during the past month, the site has been visited by people from 51 different countries/territories, that the average visit to the site lasts about 1 minute and, on average, two pages are looked at. We can also see on which page people started their visit and which page they look at last. But the most important items for SEM are: which words did people enter to find our site? For the choice of your website design, you can even see what the most common screen resolutions and browsers used by the visitors were!
In addition, it is important to optimize the site yourself; this is also known as ‘organic optimization’. This means that the content of each page complies with the many requirements set by Google. This includes the language and the ‘importance’ of the subject matter. It is also essential to keep updating information.
Finally, you also have to take into account the ‘spiders’ Google uses. Spiders are ‘seekers’ that search the entire web. The more you are seen by these spiders, the ‘more important’ your site is and the higher your ranking. One of the ways of achieving this is by ‘link-building’; creating as many internal, external and incoming links as possible.
Following a year of intensive SEM, the Google-optimization of our site is now bearing fruit. Every day, countless requests are coming in via the site and our site is being visited from more and more different countries/regions.
